Lucy's new home at HRRRF
It was Saturday morning - early - time to begin our routine of feeding the horses. We had been sent an e-mail the night before saying we had (3) new horses; Lucy, Lucy and Domino. The Lucy that we were told is blind would be in Wendy's pasture so I headed straight for Wendy's pasture to see her new pasture mate. She was a beautiful, gentle looking horse who was minding her business and just grazing. As the morning progressed and our chores of feeding led us to Wendy and Lucy's area we were interested to see where each horse would choose to go for feeding. Well, Wendy has her favorite place - the red bucket across from Pokey's pasture so that meant we had to get Lucy down to the other feeding bucket which is at the opposite end of the pasture. Sally - another volunteer went in their pasture and between tapping the bucket, coaxing with words we finally convinced Lucy to go to the other bucket where she could enjoy her grain. Later that day, several of us went in the pasture to put fly repellent on each of them. Of course, we happen to have a few yummy horse treats in our pockets so while one was occupying them and slowly giving a treat the other (2) were placing the repellent on each horses back. I think Lucy and Wendy will become close friends and pasture mates. They seem to be hitting it off already....
